Exciting young sire Tassort had two runners on Saturday that had won their previous starts and both kept their unbeaten records intact with impressive wins at Doomben and Ascot.
Despite a tardy start, Tassort colt Astapor had little trouble keeping his record at a perfect two for two in the open juvenile over 1100m at Doomben.
Ridden by Justin Stanley for Clinton Taylor, Astapor settled in a perfect stalking spot and dashed away when asked to win by a widening three lengths.
Astapor was sent off an odds-on favourite off the back of his near 5-length romp at his career debut at Rockhampton on November 10.
“We have always had a bit of a wrap on this horse, and it’s been a massive team effort,” Clinton Taylor said.
“He has a real presence about him. He looks very smart but is still learning his trade as he does not know what it’s all about.
“We will go home and assess where we go next.
“We went to the sales, but I can’t take much credit. Rodney Hay (owner) is a massive supporter of Queensland racing and deserves a good horse like this. He selected this horse and gave him to me to train.”
A $38,000 Magic Millions Book 2 purchase from Telemon Thoroughbreds for Livistona Grazing Company, Astapor is the first winner for the Eagle Farm winner Black Mink, a winning Lonhro daughter of stakes-winner Jasminka.
Purchased by Telemon Thoroughbreds for $45,000 at the 2021 National Broodmare Sale when carrying Astapor, Black Mink was covered by Cosmic Force and produced a colt in September.
Scoring a two length win in the $100,000 WATC Crystal Slipper (1100m) was Tassort gelding Onemoretwomany was ridden by Laqdar Ramoly for Neville Parnham, and went coast to coast giving nothing else a chance.
Onemoretwomany made a winning debut at Ascot on November 11 when a narrow winner from Battle Commander, who finished some two lengths adrift on Saturday.
“I think he is a really nice horse. I’m not sure where we go from here,” Parnham said.
“I don’t like over-racing two-year-olds in their first prep. We will let him get away with this one, have a reset, and see what happens from there.
“I don’t think (1200m) will worry him. We might consider giving him a break and bring him back for some of those feature races.
“I don’t think a star two-year-old has emerged yet. The trend is to bring them in after Christmas. There may be some smart ones out there, but he is smart himself.”
A $12,000 pinhook for Premium Bloodstock Services from the Kingstar Farm draft at the 2022 Gold Coast National Weanling Sale, Onemoretwomany made $70,000 to the bid of Fantail Holdings from the Ruby Racing & Breeding draft at the 2023 Perth Yearling Sale.
Bred by Kingstar Farm, Onemoretwomany is a half-brother to the very talented Extreme Choice mare Wollombi, winner of the Group III VRC The Vanity and was fourth behind Skew Wiff in the Group III Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes on Melbourne Cup Day.
His dam Hazlebrook foaled a colt by Tiger Of Malay on August 20.
