Late in the day on Friday, Pierro posted his second seven figure yearling at Magic Millions when Tom Magnier bid $1million to secure a strapping bay colt from Ben’s Duchess (USA).
The colt was consigned by Newgate, who sold the $1.9million I Am Invincible colt from Suspicieuse (FR) to Tom Magnier on Thursday.
“Again, Chris (Waller) and the whole team liked this horse a lot. Obviously, Munnings (the colt’s dam sire) needs no introduction; it’s a very good page and it was the type that got us,” Magnier said.
“Pierro is a stallion who is just going from strength to strength and he is a champion sire in the making.”
Bred by SF Bloodstock and foaled and raised at Newgate, the colt is the third foal of the very fast US Group III winner Ben’s Duchess, who is by noted speed sire Munnings.
Ben’s Duchess was one of a number of mares bought from the 2016 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale by SF Bloodstock and Newgate and they paid $US350,000 for her along with My Conquestadory (USA) for $US1.5million and Peace Time (USA) for $US260,000.
The latter two mares both have runners in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, My Conquestadory is the dam of Russian Conquest (Russian Revolution) and Peace Time is the dam of Miss Hellfire (Hellbent).
Obviously Newgate are on the right track in sourcing fast stakes class mares for the US with diverse pedigrees to match with Australian speed sires.
