Talented filly Russian Warrior could not quite get the job done when making her debut and finishing fourth at Doomben, but she opened her winning account at start two in a thrilling finish to the Amalgamated Group Maiden Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
In a three-horse war, the daughter of Russian Revolution edged out Not a Single doubt filly Floral Oasis by a half-head.
Russian Warrior was ridden by her trainer Allan Chau, who announced he would be relinquishing his jockey licence to concentrate on training.
Consigned by Sledmere Stud to the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Russian Warrior was bred by China Horse Club and purchased by A List Stud for $425,000, the equal highest priced yearling at the sale by her first season sire.
She is the second foal from Group II ATC Reisling Stakes winner French Fern, a daughter of Lope de Vega (IRE).
Russian Revolution has had three winners from his first six runners and has 39 entries for Magic Millions and 30 for Inglis Classic.
