Entered for the Group I ATC Australian Oaks, this full sister to a dual Group I winner cast off maiden status with a commanding win at Hawkesbury on Tuesday.
Trained by Mark Newnham, as was her famous full brother Shadow Hero, three year-old Pierro filly Chenin finished second at her first two starts in January, but put the writing on the wall for better things to come when opening her account in the 1800m maiden.
Sent out favourite, Chenin travelled well for Josh Parr and found the line with determination to win by a length and a half running away.
A $360,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for Laurel Oak Bloodstock (FBAA) / Grant Bloodstock, Chenin was bred by Greg and Donna Kolivos of Lightning Thoroughbreds, who raced Pierro, and was foaled and raised at Newgate.
Chenin is a full sister to Group I ATC Spring Champion Stakes and Randwick Guineas winner Shadow Hero and is the third winner from Group III winning Casino Prince mare Sookie, a grand-daughter of Champion 2YO Filly Victory Vein.
Sookie had a colt by Pierro last spring and her yearling filly by Snitzel will be offered by Newgate at Inglis Easter as agent for Lightning Thoroughbreds Lot 436.
