Exciting juvenile racing in Sydney and Melbourne on Saturday produced terrific results for the Newgate sires with Russian Revolution narrowly missing out on posting his first Group I winner in the $1.5million MRC Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.
Outstanding filly Revolutionary Miss was a brilliant winner of the Group II MRC Blue Diamond Prelude at her previous start and ran right up to that form when going down by a head to the Godolphin homebred colt Daumier in a thrilling finish.
Jamie Kah was thrilled with the performance of the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Revolutionary Miss, who has now won over $500,000 in prizemoney with a win and three seconds from four starts.
“Super effort,” Kah said.
“Just didn’t have as good a run as the winner. She was very tough late.”
Trained by Hawkes Racing, Capitalist colt Sebonack was a gallant fourth in the race having just his second start following a debut win in the Group III MRC Chairman’s Stakes.
“He was a bit further back than anticipated,” said his rider Jye McNeil.
“Didn’t show as much gate speed but he was really good through the line.”
In Sydney at Randwick, the heavy 10 track made it tricky for Golden Slipper hopefuls but Extreme Choice filly She’s Extreme staked her claim with a brave second in the Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at her second start with Russian Revolution filly Miss Faberge a good fourth.
The Anthony Cummings trained She’s Extreme was beaten three-quarters of a length by quality filly Fireburn, who holds a victory over Revolutionary Miss to her credit.
The Group II ATC Skyline Stakes (1200m) was won by unbeaten colt Promitto, but filling the placings were Russian Revolution colt Rise of the Masses and Winning Rupert gelding Jemeldi, who ran very well for Queensland trainer Tom Button after posting wins at the Sunshine Coast and Doomben.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Rise of the Masses led all the way from barrier one and tried hard to the line despite the tough conditions and is yet to miss a place in three starts for his owner breeder Sir Owen Glenn of Go Bloodstock.
Newgate sires are strongly represented at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale this week, so stay tuned for some exciting sales action.
