Newgate Farm have shared in the ownership of some smart winners since the start of the year and we can add I Am Invincible colt Barbaric to the list after the two year-old resumed from a spell to score a stylish victory at Randwick on Wednesday in the China Horse Club colours.
Sixth at his only previous outing in the Group III ATC Breeders Plate when he drew wide, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Barbaric tuned up for his return with two recent trials.
Fit and ready to fire, he overhauled talented filly Centimental to win the 1100 metre maiden by a length and three-quarters with first starter Joviality, another daughter of I Am Invincible, running a fine race for third.
Centimental was a last start second in the Group III ATC Widden Stakes to Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Away Game, who runs in the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes this Saturday, so the form out of this race may prove exceptionally strong.
“It was good to see him win like that as we’ve always believed he was one of our better colts,” said Peter Snowden, who can now go home and plan a path towards the Golden Slipper for Barbaric.
“Little fish are sweet, but it’s a starting point and hopefully we go on from here.”
A $900,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Segenhoe draft for China Horse Club/Newgate Bstock/WinStar Farm, Barbaric runs for a big syndicate of international and local bloodstock investors headed by Newgate Farm.
Bred by Segenhoe in partnership, Barbaric is a half-brother to Group III placed Diddles and is the fifth winner from Group III winner Mimi Le Brock, who also won a Magic Millions 2YO Classic and was Group I placed in the VRC Emirates Stakes and Myer Classic.
Barbaric is the tenth two year-old winner of the season for I Am Invincible, who has two runners in the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes this Saturday in Muntaseera and Rulership, who runs in similar ownership as Barbaric and is also trained by the Snowdens.
