Three year-old Capitalist colt Shadow Devil has had a good grounding at the barrier trials and unleashed for real at Gosford on race day producing an explosive debut victory.
Trained by Mark Newnham and ridden by Tommy Sherry, Shadow Devil was allowed to settle back early in the 1100m maiden, but when asked to hit the line he charged to the post and won running away by two lengths.
“He’s always show us nice ability at home, but we’ve given him plenty of time as he was a late foal (November 20), so he’s had a lot of small preps and trials,” said Mark Newnham.
“The way he let down here today was really impressive.”
