The record for individual Australian winners in a season for a second crop sire is held by Northern Meteor with 80 winners, a number equaled by his son Deep Field on Saturday.
Bringing up his 80th winner for the season was two year-old filly Deep Mirror, who saluted at Moe by a length at her third start for the Shane Nichols stable.
It’s been a ground breaking season for Deep Field with his tally of winners including a pair of Group II winners in Xilong and Cosmic Force as well as stakes-winners Fituese and Riddle Me That along with a further nine stakes-placed performers.
With nearly three more weeks of the season to run, Deep Field looks certain to take over the record set by his sire Northern Meteor, who has left a lasting legacy through his sire sons.
Deep Field stands at a fee of $55,000 this spring at Newgate Farm, who will also stand his first son to stud Cosmic Force at a fee of $16,500.
