Last season’s leading first crop sire by winners, Capitalist posted his first metropolitan winner of the new season on Wednesday at Newcastle with a debut victory for the Chris Waller trained Coodarady.
With only one previous trial under his belt which resulted in a win at Rosehill on July 30, Coodarady belied the lack of match practice to jump well for Alysha Collett and take up the lead.
He held the fence and was strong to the line to win the 1300m three year-old maiden by a short head in a determined display.
A $380,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Tom Magnier from the Mill Park draft, Coodarady runs for a large group of owners headed by Coolmore.
He is a three-quarter-brother to Group I winner Booker and stakes-winner Banquo being the third winner from Noondie, a winning Flying Spur three-quarter sister to stakes-winner Tranquility.
