Capitalist is a sire on fire with eight winners in the past seven days and five on Saturday with one of his best performers in the past week being four year-old gelding Etienne, who posted his fourth straight win when scoring at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Etienne broke his maiden at Wangaratta in December last year and since resuming from a spell in late August has reeled off three consecutive wins at Morphettville, Ballarat and then Moonee Valley.
Sent off a short priced favourite for the Benchmark 70 event over 1200m with Opie Bosson in the saddle, Etienne scored by a neck and has now won four of eight starts earning just shy of $110,000 and covering his purchase price as a yearling.
Etienne was snapped up by Busuttin Racing for $90,000 from the Springmount draft at Inglis Premier and was a successful pinhook having been bought as a weanling from Fairhill Farm for $35,000 from the Inglis Weanling Sale. Bred by Mike O’Donnell, he is the second winner from Flying Spur mare Satirical Lass.
Capitalist also had a new Group performer with talented colt Mexico chasing home King’s Gambit for a brave second the Group II ATC Roman Consul Stakes.
Mexico was also bred by Mike O’Donnell and was sold by Fairhill Farm as a weanling for $180,000 before being re-offered as a yearling by Newgate Farm at Inglis Classic where James Harron Colts Partnership purchased him for $375,000.
Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Mexico is on the improve this preparation and can no doubt be placed to advantage in further Black Type races.
