Newgate was founded by Henry Field in 2010 with only a handful of mares on a 250 acre leased property. Having travelled around the world’s major racing and breeding jurisdictions and working for some of the world’s leading bloodstock operators, Henry set out with a vision of building Australia’s leading stallion operation. Today, Newgate is one of Australia’s powerhouse stallion operations and thoroughbred nurseries encompassing 1,700 acres of prime Hunter Valley land.
In 2012, two years on from its inception, Newgate acquired the Group 1 winning sprinter Foxwedge and the Newgate stallion division was established. Newgate continued to grow in the market and soon outgrew the original leased property. In 2013 Newgate expanded further by purchasing the historic Brooklyn Lodge Stud, a farm renowned for producing top racehorses, including Golden Slipper winners, Classic winners and Cup winners.
In 2024, Newgate is home to 16 stallions including Australia’s most elite stallion statistically, Extreme Choice who stands at a stud fee of $275,000.
The growth of Newgate has continued exponentially over the last decade and is built on the foundations of both the integrity of its people and the quality of its stallions and bloodstock.
