It was another day and another debut two year-old winner for Deep Field with the Tony and Calvin McEvoy trained gelding Maccabee scoring comfortably at Kilmore on Thursday.
Ridden patiently by John Allen, Macccabee hit the line hard from off the pace to win the 1100 metre maiden by the best part of a length over another Deep Field youngster in Ayemgee.
A $50,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for McEvoy Mitchell Racing, Maccabee was bred by SF Bloodstock and foaled and raised at Newgate. He is a half-brother to Group III placed Affirmation and is the sixth winner from Octagonal mare Apocrypha, a daughter of Group I VRC Oaks winner Tributes.
The win of Maccabee brought a timely pedigree update for his half-brother by Flying Artie that will be offered by Rosden Park at the Adelaide Magic Millions as Lot 453
Maccabee is the seventh two year-old winner this season for Deep Field, who is the leading second crop sire by winners and also the leading overall sire of three year-old winners.
Deep Field has massive numbers to buoy his success going forward as he has covered over 1000 mares in his first five seasons.
