Dual Group I winning I Am Invincible mare Viddora was tipped as the highlight mare on day three of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and duly produced some fiscal fireworks when purchased by Yulong for $2.55million from the Newgate Consignment.
Offered in absentia, Viddora was presented in foal to star European sire Lope de Vega in her first season at stud on a 25th September cover.
Trained throughout her career by Lloyd Kennewell, Viddora was purchased for just $40,000 as a yearling at the Adelaide Magic Millions and raced for a large group of owners.
She is another I Am Invincible sprinter that just got better and better with maturity achieving her peak as a five year-old with Group I wins in the Group I MVRC Moir Stakes and WATC Winterbottom Stakes.
Retired with earnings of $2.8million, Viddora had her final two starts in the Northern Hemisphere including a fourth to Blue Point in the Group I Al Quoz in Dubai, which led to her being covered to Southern Hemisphere time in Ireland by Lope de Vega.
Henry Field, Managing Director for vendor Newgate Farm, said he was pleased to see so many parties bidding for the star of their consignment.
“I found it encouraging that there were five different people on her at $1.5 million. She’s the real deal, it’s that simple. She was the most spectacular mare you will ever see. She was a top-class sprinter and she’s special,” he said.
“I really hope that Yulong hit it out of the park with her because she was ‘out of the box’ and they bought the real deal.
“For what these elite mares are making, I thought she was reasonably priced. I had her clearly marked as the second-best mare in the sale (behind Sunlight) and she made in the middle of what I thought she’d make. They’ve bought a very special mare.
“It’s really important that these mares go on and throw a topliner. If there’s a mare in this catalogue that goes on to throw a topliner I really believe it will be Viddora.”
The Newgate Consignment sold 13 mares for $4,545,000 with other good sales including As It Lies selling for $370,000 to Sheamus Mills Bloodstock and Dyslexic selling for $360,000 to Belmont Bloodstock Agency, both mares sired by Newgate’s former sire Foxwedge.
