Newgate Farm’s Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside achieved 100% clearance and had eight weanlings sell at an average $151,688 at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale this week and had five sell for $100,000 or more.
His top seller was the filly from Pasar Silbano (IRE) that made $400,000 for Element Hill when knocked down to Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbreds.
She is a half-sister to Group II winner and budding young sire Zousain and is the last foal of the mare.
“She fits Gai and Adrian’s model.” said Bruce Slade of Kestrel Thoroughbreds.
“She is a beautiful moving filly who looks so sharp and she will suit the system well – she will come early and she has that residual value.”
Outstanding pinhook judges Jim Carey and Rhys Smith were also quick to secure Stay Inside youngsters.
Carey paid $230,000 for a colt from Ocean Deep consigned by Phoenix Broodmare Farm and Smith snapped up a colt from Metis for $180,000 from Morningside.
“He is a good moving, quality colt – what you’d expect by Stay Inside who we have a huge opinion of,” Carey said.
“He will head back to one of the elite sales next year.”
His dam Ocean Deep was one of 152 mares covered by Stay Inside last spring.
Snitzel’s Group I winning son Wild Ruler was also well received and had eight weanlings average $75,375 with his top seller a colt from Katie’s Eyes (USA) that made $130,000 for Newgate when bought by Alma Vale Thoroughbreds.
He is the fourth foal of an imported stakes-winner that has already produced two winners.
Modestly priced Extreme Choice son Tiger of Malay had some encouraging results with colts from Show Me More and Lucky Lago both selling for $75,000 to good judges Merrick Staunton and Jim Carey.
