Champion Australian First Crop Sire last season, Russian Revolution was back in the Black Type groove on Saturday producing three promising new stakes horses.
Exciting two year-old filly Perfect Proposal was sent out favourite for the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) after starring at the official juvenile barrier trials last month where the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly clocked the quickest time of all heats.
She ran right up to that good showing beating all bar her stablemate Platinum Jubilee, who was foaled, raised and sold by Newgate Farm.
Ridden a great race by Tim Clark, Perfect Proposal went down by a little over a length after looking the winner halfway up the straight, but her turn will come.
In the Group III ATC Breeders’ Plate (1000m), Russian Revolution again had the favourite with the John O’Shea trained colt Physical Graffiti running a good race to finish third in the heavy ground behind Empire of Japan and Mach Ten.
“I thought he ran well, although I think he found the ground just a bit too deep, it’s much worse than he trialled on the other day, but he’s a nice horse going forward,” said Brenton Avdulla.
The Listed ATC Dulcify Stakes (1600m) featured progressive Russian Revolution three year-old Communist stepping out in Black Type company for the first time following some good efforts in provincial races.
The Michael Freedman trained gelding proved well up to the task finishing a gallant second to seasoned stakes horse Williamsburg, who pounced late to grab the lead.
Communist has three wins and a second from just six starts with earnings topping $130,000 and is clearly a promising young horse for the future.
Russian Revolution is leading the Australian Second Season Sire Table by earnings and is equal on winners.
