There were 10 850m heats run at the official two year-old trials at Randwick on Monday with the quickest time recorded by Russian Revolution filly Perfect Proposal, who looks a likely candidate for the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes.
Tim Clark rode the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly, who looked ultra professional in leading throughout to win by more than two lengths in 51.06 seconds.
“She’s put her hand up all the way and she’s been really nice from Day 1,” said Tim Clark.
“She’s put the time on the board and probably done it in the best style, I felt, so she’s probably put her hand up as maybe the leading contender [for the Gimcrack Stakes] at the moment.”
A $420,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott / Kestrel Thoroughbreds from the Sledmere Stud draft, Perfect Proposal was bred by China Horse Club.
A filly from a fast family, Perfect Proposal is a half-sister to stakes-placed Lady Sharapova and Papillon from Group III placed Encosta de Lago mare Perfect Persuasion, a full sister to Champion Filly Alinghi, who won a Blue Diamond among her four Group I wins.
Russian Revolution also had a couple of colts raise their hand to be placed in Physical Grafiti and High King.
The Waterhouse Bott stable will also have another Gimcrack contender in Zoustar filly Platinum Jubilee, a $600,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Newgate Farm.
The half-sister to Group III winner Queen of the Ball showed plenty of pace to win her heat by more than a length and was foaled and raised at Newgate for Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock.
The Newgate / China Horse Club colts partnership struck early with Extreme Choice colt Don Corleone taking the first heat of the day by a length.
Don Corleone was a $650,000 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale purchase for China Horse Club/Newgate Bloodstock from the draft of Gilgai Farm having been bred by renowned Victorian breeder Rick Jamieson.
Don Corleone is a half-brother to stakes-placed The Drinks Cart and three other winners from fast stakes-placed juvenile Snipzu.
