Newgate’s exciting young super sire Extreme Choice had the two highest priced yearlings sold at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on Tuesday delivering the top colt and filly on day one of the sale.
The Silverstream Consignment offered a cracking bay colt from Exceed and Excel mare Egyptian Melody that sold for $450,000 to Ciaron Maher.
He was offered by Bowness Stud earlier this year in January at Magic Millions selling for $230,000 to TFI and was offered this time broken in to dissolve a partnership.
“This guy came through the ring late and I was really taken with his athleticism,” said Will Bourne, Bloodstock Manager for Ciaron Maher
“I felt at that money he was good value and we’re happy to walk away with him.
“This colt is very athletic. He hasn’t got too heavy since he’s developed and I think he’ll be a nice two-year-old for our Sydney stable.”
Extreme Choice also had the top filly of the session with Bhima Thoroughbreds selling their filly from Diamond Meteor for $300,000 to Trilogy Racing. She was originally going to be offered at Inglis Classic, but missed that sale due to an eye issue.
“We love the stallion and I thought she was the best example of the stallion I’ve seen this year. She had a couple of little issues (which meant she wasn’t offered earlier) but we were happy to buy her,” Sean Dingwall said.
“She has lovely size and depth, a great hip on her and a lot of quality. She has a queen’s head and everything we look for. She put on a bit of a show here (in the parade ring), but good fillies have got to have a little bit of that in them.”
She is the third foal of a winning half-sister by Northern Meteor to stakes-winner Law and to the dam of Group II winner Paradee.
Extreme Choice stands this spring at a fee of $275,000.
