With three runners in the Golden Slipper this Saturday, Australia’s leading first season sire Russian Revolution is hot property and provided four of the top six lots during the first session of the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale on Tuesday.
Top seller for Russian Revolution was also the second highest priced horse of the session, a colt from Group III winning Rip Van Winkle (IRE) mare Let Her Rip knocked down for $180,000 to Kavanagh Racing.
That colt was a member of a five horse draft from The Chase in New South Wales, which was managed by the late former South Australian based horsewoman Kerrie Vantijn.
The Chase also offered the other three top selling yearlings by Russian Revolution with a filly from Dancefordiamonds selling for $160,000 to Kavanagh Racing and two colts from Hidden Gem (GB) and Lasarla also fetching $160,000 when secured by Darby Racing and Trilogy Racing/ David Jolly.
All were bred by China Horse Club, in whose colours Russian Revolution raced with great success winning the Group I ATC The Galaxy and MRC Oakleigh Plate.
Mark Kavanagh is keen to build his stable numbers now that he is training in partnership with his son Levi and has several yearlings by Russian Revolution to join the stable for next season.
“I bought one in Sydney for $220,000 that was related to Atlantic Jewel and Russian Revolution is the gun two-year-old sire,” Kavanagh told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“Everybody wants them and that’s why they sold well today.”
Astute Sydney based syndicators Darby Racing were well pleased with the colt from Hidden Gem (GB), a blue blood import by Shamardal from the family of Epsom Derby winner Harzand and last year’s triple Group I winning Irish Derby winner Hurricane Lane.
“We had one (Insurrection) run third on debut on Saturday at Gosford with Michael Freedman who goes really well, so we came here trying to find a nice Russian Revolution and he was the one,” Scott Darby told ANZ.
“I like the cross with the stoutness in the family and the shape of him. He looks fast and is typical of the sire who has three horses in the Slipper.”
The sale continues.
