Showing the benefit of a first-up fourth at the Gold Coast, the Lee Freedman-trained two year-old Champagne Tastes opened her winning account in an 1100m maiden at Ipswich on Wednesday.
Ridden by Samantha Collett, the daughter of Spirit Of Boom was eased out of the early speed battle up front before peeling three-wide to mount her challenge.
After fighting off the speedsters Hypothesize and Never Been Better, Champagne Tastes held off all challengers to win by a length.
“She is just a little professional,” stable representative Matt O’Sullivan said.
“Lee was very impressed with her first run. We have worked a few things out, and she did well today. She ran right through the line – she is just a little ripper.
“Lee has a stack of two-year-olds coming through, so hopefully that kicks off a big few weeks for us.”
Bred by Blake Sandblom Pty Ltd and Henry Field Bloodstock Pty Ltd, Champagne Tastes races for Hollymount Stud and Newgate Bloodstock after failing to make her $200,000 reserve at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
The daughter of Spirit of Boom is the third winner from four to race out of the Hussonet (USA) mare Your Life Style, who was one of five daughters of Redoute’s Choice’s half-sister Monsoon Wedding purchased by Newgate from the TeeleyAsset Dispersal.
Purchased for $1.2million, Your Life Style is a three-quarter sister to the dam of Shoals and Groundswell and a half-sister to Precious Lorraine and Lucky Raquie.
Newgate will consign a Rubick filly out of Your Life Style to the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Your Life Style foaled a Deep Field filly on October 29.
