On the eve of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale where he has 10 entries, Newgate Farm’s exciting young sire Capitalist delivered another smart winner with Gleneagles saluting at Hawkesbury on Easter Monday.
Having his first run for new trainer David Payne, following two promising runs for his previous trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Gleneagles was tune up with a recent trial and sent out favourite for the 1000m maiden.
He bombed the start from barrier one, but recovered for Keagan Latham to power home and win by a length.
A $500,000 Magic Millions purchase for Wattle Bloodstock from the B2B Thoroughbreds draft, Gleneagles is the first foal of Group III winning Street Boss (USA) mare Scarlet Billows.
Gleneagles is the eighth winner (seven in Australia and one in NZ) from 38 starters for Capitalist, whose three stakes-winners give him 7.9% stakes-winners to runners, and if he can keep that up, he’s destined for a long and successful stud career.
