Strapping Capitalist colt Profiteer has the two-year-old autumn features in his sights following a dominant victory at his career debut over 1100 metres at Flemington on Saturday.
The handsome chestnut was sent straight to the front by Michael Dee and extended his margin at every call to defeat the highly touted Winning Rupert colt Ranveer by two and a quarter lengths.
“He has really good gate speed, can go the quick tempo and find again. He has a big action, is light on his feet and is a real two-year-old,” said co-trainer Mick Kent Jnr.
“Credit to Jeremy Rogers who found the horse at the Classic Sale for Roll The Dice, we love training for them, and they have a really nice colt.
“He is an Inglis horse, so the obvious one is to go to the Millenium in February worth $2 million or do you have a go at the Blue Diamond.
“We will get back and speak to Mick Price (co-trainer) and the owners on Monday morning.
“He will only improve that horse. He has had a pretty light prep, and it’s exciting for everyone involved.”
Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Junior, Profiteer was a $165,000 purchase by Roll The Dice Racing Pty Ltd / Rogers Bloodstock out of the Newgate Farm draft at the 2020 Classic Yearling Sale.
Foaled and raised at Newgate, he is the first foal of the well-performed Snitzel mare Athena Lass, a Moonee Valley 2yo winner when on debut and placed in the Group III Quezette Stakes at Caulfield.
A half-sister to stakes-winner Euryale out of a daughter of the Group I ATC Flight Stakes and Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner Danglissa, Athena Lass has a full-sister to Profiteer in the Newgate Farm draft heading to the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January.
Athena Lass foaled an I Am Invincible filly on October 31.
Profiteer becomes the second winner for Newgate Farm’s Golden Slipper winner Capitalist, who also had Mission Value finish a good third in the $500,000 Inglis Nursery on debut.
Capitalist has 48 catalogued for the Gold Coast and 23 in the Inglis Classic.
