The fields are out for the first set of official two year-old trials in Sydney on Monday at Randwick with nine heats run over 850 metres featuring plenty of runners by first season sires with our Golden Slipper winner Capitalist the most represented freshman.
Capitalist has five runners, while Flying Artie has three and Extreme Choice and Winning Rupert also have a runner each.
Capitalist was the Champion 2YO of his generation winning the Golden Slipper and Magic Millions 2YO Classic so would be well expected to make a quick impression with his first two year-olds.
Among his five entries for the trials are two of his most expensive yearlings.
The Peter and Paul Snowden trained colt Kalashnikov was a $600,000 Magic Millions purchase for James Harron Bloodstock from the Segenhoe draft and is from Rough Ride, a half-sister by Flying Spur to Group I winner Eagle Way and stakes-winners Assertive Eagle, Impressive Eagle and Soaressa.
Also trained by Peter and Paul Snowden is $550,000 Magic Million purchase Captivant, purchased by China Horse Club/Newgate Bloodstock/Starlight Racing from the Ashleigh Thoroughbreds draft.
He is the third foal of Speedboat, a half-sister by Commands to stakes-winner Cross Current from the family of Group I winner River dove and Crown Prosecutor as well as Group II winner and sire Headwater.
