Fresh from siring Profiteer to win the $2million Inglis Millennium on Saturday, Australia’s leading first season sire by earnings Capitalist was in hot demand at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale on Sunday providing the top priced horse of the session.
Consigned by Davali Thoroughbreds, the colt from Mystical Tale was bought by James Harron Bloodstock for $600,000 setting a new record price for a Classic Sale yearling.
Davali’s Alison Hush couldn’t hide her tears in the vendor box as auctioneer Chris Russell brought the gavel down at $600,000.
“I’m not really sure how I feel, I’m exhausted but over the moon obviously. It hasn’t really sunk in yet but I’m sure it will,’’ Hush said.
“We put a low reserve on him to get him on the market, we knew he would sail past that but quite that far past it? Not in our wildest expectations did we think $600,000, maybe half that! Very exciting.
“It’s great for a little farm to have such a good result, to take on the big boys and show them that we can sell good horses too.
“Numbers have been great all week and the people who have been coming to inspect have been absolutely amazing. Our stats every day are up on last year, we’re thrilled to see it and now they’re putting their hands up in the ring to back it up and that’s the main thing.’’
Harron has a strong affinity for Capitalist having purchased him as a yearling and this $600,000 colt was one of three yearlings by the Golden Slipper winner he purchased on the day
“He’s a strong colt, he handled the sale very well, great substance and obviously Capitalist is doing a great job,’’ said Harron, who also described him as the best colt in the sale.
“I’ve had more horses on my list at this sale than I ever have had at Classic before and it’s a real credit to Inglis and the group of horses they’ve put together.”
Mystical Tale has another filly foal to follow by Capitalist, who finished the first session as the leading sire by aggregate with 11 yearlings generating $2,175,000 in turnover at an average $197,727.
Deep Field made his presence felt on day 1 with colts from Pearl Congenial and My Shabella selling for $280,000 and $270,000, while Winning Rupert also chimed in at the top end with a $200,000 colt from Missshiraz.
