Fresh from winning The Everest last Saturday with his superstar sprinter Classique Legend, Hong Kong based owner Bon Ho was quick to reinvest some of his winnings at the Inglis Ready2Race securing Lot 35, a fleet footed gelding by Capitalist.
Consigned by Glenn Haven, the talented bay gelding breezed in 10.17 seconds and finished his gallop with ears pricked.
He attracted multiple bids before Bon Ho on the phone to Jonathan D’Arcy landed the winning bid at $550,000 for his Legend Racing.
“He breezed up very well and he came highly recommended by Matt Vella of Glenn Haven Lodge,” Ho said from Hong Kong.
“I have a few Capitalists myself already and they are all promising types. I think this stallion is going to be very successful so I was very happy to be able to add another one to my stable.
“As the sale suggests, this horse is ready to race. He will stay in Australia and be trained by Matt Vella.
“I have a lot of respect for Matt as a horseman, he’s very capable and I look forward to this horse showing us all how good we think he is.”
Bred by SF Bloodstock and partners, the gelding was foaled and raised at Newgate and fetched $170,000 when offered in their draft at Inglis Classic and bought by Mitchell Bloodstock.
He is the first foal of stakes-winning Snippetson mare Lady Sniper, who was bought by Newgate and partners for $350,000 at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in 2017. She has a yearling filly by Russian Revolution and is back in foal to him again.
Capitalist had his first winner last Saturday with a hugely impressive debut victory at Randwick for Captivant and the son of Written Tycoon stands at Newgate this spring at a fee of $44,000.
