The second session of the Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale on Tuesday was topped by a $360,000 Extreme Choice colt from Tiara Star that was bought by Laurel Oak Bloodstock.
Consigned by Rushton Park, the colt attracted spirited bidding with Tony McEvoy pulling up just short of the mark while Louis Mihalyka will take the youngster home.
“We are very happy,” Laurel Oak’s Louis Mihalyka said.
“I haven’t been to Adelaide for many years, but I went through the catalogue and there were a couple of horses I fancied and they were both on the Tuesday so I flew in last night.
“We got the main one we wanted!
He is the second foal of Tiara Star, a six time metro winning half-sister by Congrats (USA) to stakes-winner Zoutenant from stakes-winner Tenants Tiara.
“I thought we were going to get him for a bit less. I’m a bit annoyed at Tony (McEvoy, underbidder),” he added with a laugh.
“He did come over and offer to train him, but we agreed with Hayes’ that we wouldn’t bid against them, so the colt is going to the Hayes brothers at Lindsay Park.
“It’s a good mating. He’s a great match for the mare. I like the stallion obviously – especially his strike rate of group horses to runners.”
Tiara Star was back at Newgate last spring to be covered by In The Congo.
Cosmic Force also made his presence felt in Adelaide with a filly from Why Be Discreet selling for $190,000 to Phillip Stokes Racing/Connolly Bloodstock.
Consigned by The Chase, the filly is a half-sister to three winners from the famed Discreet family that bristles with Group and Listed winners headed by Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Maybe Discreet.
She was also back at Newgate last spring for a visit to Russian Revolution.
